Preparing for License Renewal – What You Need to Know

The eight-year license term has gone by in what might seem like the blink of an eye, but it will soon be time for radio stations in the Mountain States to file their renewals (by June 1), to be followed on August 1 by California stations, then stations in other Pacific states and territories on October 1, with stations in New England on December 1, with the northern Mid-Atlantic states concluding the 3-year radio license renewal cycle early next year. 

TV follows just a year behind. With the public file online, a broadcaster’s activities will be subject to much more scrutiny than in the past. Already, well over 100 stations have been sent consent decrees for political file violations. With the renewal deadline fast approaching, what issues should you be considering and what actions should you be taking to prepare for your license renewal filing?
